Class of ’34 endows scholarship

This fall, Emory will name the first recipient of the Class of 1934 Scholarship, funded by an endowment established to benefit students pursuing an arts and sciences or business degree.

More than $100,000 was contributed by thirty members of the class or their surviving spouses and descendants, after the idea for a namesake scholarship arose at the Class of 1934’s sixtieth reunion.

“This class has a pretty high regard for itself, and we felt its name ought to be perpetuated,” says Trustee Emeritus RANDOLPH W. THROWER ’34C-’36L. “We hope it will be somewhat of a challenge to other classes.”

Thrower, fellow Trustee Emeritus BOISFEUILLET JONES ’34C-’37L, and classmate MYRON F. STEVES Sr. ’34C, a retired Houston insurance executive, led the fund-raising drive.
