New Business: The Goizueta Foundation Center

“That achievement is going to be symbolically acknowledged in the bricks and mortar that will be assembled here” in the new Goizueta Foundation Center for Research and Doctoral Education, Wagner said. “This is a major milestone for the Goizueta Business School, but it is only one milestone along the way. There is a big job ahead of this school. We celebrate a new chapter and a step toward our vision to make the Goizueta Business School and Emory a destination university.”

The $33.4-million Goizueta Foundation Center will complete a “magnificent quadrangle” in a part of campus that was once little-used space, said business school Dean Thomas S. Robertson. The five-story building will house Goizueta’s recently established Ph.D. program and research centers, a reflection of the school’s growing commitment to research. The executive programs also will have their own space under the new roof.

“Dean Tom Robertson and the leadership of the Goizueta Business School have recognized that in order to reach its potential, the school needed to have graduate and doctoral programs as well as additional facilities,” said Ben F. Johnson III, chair of the University Board of Trustees, at the March 18 groundbreaking in Goizueta’s Jenkins Courtyard. Olga de Goizueta (pictured), widow of the late Roberto C. Goizueta and chair of the Goizueta Foundation, received special recognition.

The research center’s first floor will be made up of classrooms and Ph.D. program space and will connect with the current auditorium and the student commons. Level two will open onto the courtyard and new indoor and outdoor cafe, which will offer access to a wireless network for students and faculty. Another feature of the 91,000-square-foot facility will be a larger, more sophisticated broadcast recording studio and space for a simulated trading floor.

Tara Whitehead ’93MBA, president of the Goizueta Alumni Association, spoke for her classmates and fellow alumni when she expressed pride in the new addition.
