Faculty and staff honored for excellence in teaching, mentoring and more

Emory University faculty and staff were recognized with multiple awards in conjunction with the 2020 school ceremonies and the conclusion of the academic year. The following awards were conferred across the university’s nine schools:


Candler School of Theology

Provost’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Education: Helen Jin Kim, assistant professor of American religious history

Staff Person of the Year: Sarah Bogue, director of digital learning, and Shelly Hart, director of academic administration and registrar

Faculty Person of the Year: Khalia Williams, assistant dean of worship and music, assistant professor in the practice of worship 

On Eagle’s Wings Excellence in Teaching Award: Helen Jin Kim, assistant professor of American religious history

George P. Cuttino Award for Excellence in Mentoring: Joyce Burkhalter Flueckiger, professor of religion

Emory Williams Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Awards:

  • Astrid M. Eckert, associate professor of history
